The agency also wants to examine how changes to trial eligibility criteria might affect the complexity or length of studies, and the strength of data needed to demonstrate safety and effectiveness. Finally, it will discuss both alternative trial designs ...

#FDA encourages drug sponsors to take a thoughtful approach to determining clinical #TrialsEligibility criteria. Re-evaluating eligibility criteria can lead to more accurate info about drugs’ safety and efficacy in the patients who will receive the drug https:// healthpolicy.duke.edu/events/evaluat ing-inclusion-and-exclusion-criteria-clinical-trials   …

YES--> Dawn Corbett of @NIH: Don't look for easiest people to get in a #clinicaltrial. Some people w/ a mental illness can consent to participate (& people w/ mental illnesses suffer from chronic diseases like everyone else). #trialseligibility
For more details, including trial eligibility requirements, visit this page. The ultimate goal of the decades of research is to determine if the drug can reduce or even prevent ischemia reperfusion injury. If so, that could be of tremendous benefit to lung ...

When we don't think thoughtfully about inclusion and exclusion criteria, we develop "default" populations. While any one study might need a homogenous population, this isn't okay for ALL trials. #TrialsEligibility

We need to think deeply about our inclusion and exclusion criteira and avoid blanket criteria. Don't exclude under 18 to be sure participants can read. (lots under 18 can read, some over 18 can't!) #TrialsEligibility

42% of American adults (over 18) have multiple chronic conditions. (It's hard for these people to qualify for clinical trials.) #TrialsEligibility

All of session 1's presenters were women, so that says a lot to me about the people who are doing work on justice in medicine and including more populations democratically in research! #TrialsEligibility

Very few trials assess the effect of medications in pregnant and lactating women, even though many pregnant and lactating women take drugs. (without good data to truly make those decisions) #TrialsEligibility

An FDA analysis demonstrated that elderly are not underrepresented compared to census data but African American population was underrepresented. Exclusion criteria did not account for this disparity. #TrialsEligibility
